HISPANIC TV UPFRONT REPORT-2017 EDITION HispanicAd.com/HispanicMarketOverview.com
BEING IN THE RIGHT PLACE, FOR LATINO SPORTS LOVERS
After several years of hosting the first Hispanic Upfront event in New York, beIN SPORTS has opted to go with the road show to best meet with clients and marketers regarding its 2017-2018 programming.
“We believe that this year, current and potential clients are now getting a more personalized experience,” says Antonio Briceño, beIN SPORTS’ U.S. and Canada, Deputy Managing Director. “And, to get out of Upfront week, we’re doing things at different times.”
This includes bringing clients to big events.
This year, beIN SPORT is inviting some of its key clients to “El Clásico,” the highly-anticipated matchup featuring Real Madrid vs. Barça in Miami—the first time the two teams have faced off on U.S. soil
There’s also a bigger presence coming for French Ligue 1 team Paris St. Germain, which just happens to be owned by beIN Media Group. They’ll play Juventus in Miami, Orlando and a location in Detroit.
For the July 22 Orlando match, “PSG” is taking on English Premier League No. 2 Tottenham Hotspur.
For beIN SPORTS, coverage from three key professional leagues remains its No. 1 reason for tuning in. In the U.S., it’s the home for Italy’s Serie A, Spain’s La Liga, and the top French league. It’s also airing second-division English football, and the World Cup qualifiers.
But, beIN SPORTS is also investing in coverage of such sports as motorcycling (MOTOR GP to superbike) and, as of 2016, local racing (MotoAmerica).
“If you’re a motorcycle racing fan in North America, we have all three of the events that there are in this sport,” Briceño says.
Additionally, the network is bulking up on collegiate softball and volleyball thanks to a contract with Conference USA.
Briceño says, “Soccer is still a very fast-growing sport in this country, but still not a core sport in the general market in the U.S.”
That’s where it believes it can build audience, both with Hispanics and total market viewers to beIN SPORTS’ English-language feed. A deal with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) gives beIN SPORTS access to 55 tournaments; it airs coverage from nine ATP Tour events.
As live coverage is a focus, studio programs are comprised of The Locker Room is again joined by news recap program The XTRA. Both are coming back to the English- and Spanish-language feeds of beIN SPORTS.
