Rodriguez said, with Univision and Mexican partner Televisa working together in “bringing storylines to the forefront with some modernizations.”
Rodriguez used flowery words to describe the effort, noting that the telenovela reboots are “beautifully produced and excitingly told.”
They also take a page from the premium pay TV and OTT world, as each series will be presented in a 25-episode “can’t miss experience.”
“The Collection” bows in Q4, with noted Spanish star Paz Vega (“The OA,” “7 Vidas”) playing the lead role in a rebooted Cuña de Lobos.
Asked about diversity on the air, Rodriguez said she’s “really, really proud of the work we have been doing on that forefront.” Among the “multiple examples” of the new vision of beauty includes an Afro-Latina serving as an anchor on a Univision newscast.
Jumping from scripted to unscripted programming, Rodriguez then shared that the Sunday night family block will see “the search for the next big Latina music star,” in Reina de la Cancion.
The co-host? Puerto Rican rising star Pedro Capó, known for his global No. 1 Latin pop hit “Calma.”
Puerto Rican veteran recording artist Olga Tañon and Dominican Natti Natasha are two of the three judges.
