presentation on the morning of May 16 were not available at press time. However, both Telemundo and cable network NBC Universo will be a part of the presentation. There was no mention of digital multicast network TeleXitos.
Upfront 2016 attendees will also enjoy a special performance that puts Telemundo in the spotlight, courtesy of Jennifer Lopez. The Bronx native currently serves as executive producer and co-star of NBC’s crime series Shades of Blue, and Lopez will perform at a May 16 event set for the Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom.
NBCUniversal did reveal much with its digital plans in the Hispanic market. At a press conference held May 12 at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, Peter Blacker, EVP of Digital Media and Emerging Business for NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, announced several digital initiatives with content creators Mashable, Vox, Tastemade, Buzzfeed and Wise Entertainment.
The new initiatives enhance Telemundo’s efforts to attract bilingual, bilingual millennials.
Specifically, Buzzfeed is collaborating with Telemundo on a short-form series dubbed “Much Ado About Nada” that will be shot in English and screen across multiple platforms and screens within Buzzfeed and Telemundo’s millennial-targeted platforms.
Vox’s SB Nation, a digital sports property, will launch a new content vehicle with a focus on Russia 2018, FIFA World Cup qualifiers, UFC Fight Night and upcoming Mexican first-division soccer and National Football League action.
Tastemade is teaming with Telemundo in the creation of a foodie digital and social experience—DELI. Popular receipes and series on food preparation and cooking will be the focal point of DELI’s content.
Meanwhile, the Telemundo “El Pulso” vertical is being expanded with Mashable to include a weekly Facebook Live show to be hosted each Wednesday by social influencer Christian Acosta. The series will review the latest technology social chatter among Latinos and highlight the most viral trends.
Additionally, plans are in the works for two new feature films from Telemundo multiplatform studio Fluency Productions. The films—“Fat Camp” and “East Los High”—are set for release in 2017. The latter marks Wise Entertainment’s first full-length feature.
