THE 2019-2020 UPFRONT REPORT UNIVISION
“It’s a new day!” That’s the first message sent to marketers and advertising executives from Univision Communications, which is using the 2019-2020 Upfront season to position itself as “America’s Hispanic Superbrand.”
In an interesting move, Univision’s presentation schedule saw network executives tout the media company’s upcoming slate of shows and live event programming at two Upfront presentations. One was scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, at 11am. The other was scheduled for the evening of May 13, with both events using Center415 in New York.
Each of the events allowed attendees to “experience Univision’s unique storytelling through an immersive activation.”
But, the timing of the May 13 event was puzzling, as it is being held opposite NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises’ annual party, this year featuring a performance from Pitbull.
Could that be a sign of renewed confidence and a bit of peacocking, no pun intended, from a reinvigorated Univision?
Univision Communications is a whole new operation under CEO Vince Sadusky (pictured seated, at right). In recent weeks, prime-time ratings have been on the rise. An Upfront reel shown to the press ahead of the New York presentations suggests a new focus on “more” live and local programming, as well as more tech and more soccer.
That’s not to suggest that all is status quo at Univision. Two major changes are in the works.
